SEYSSEL (Claude de): The King’s Victory over the Venetians. Paris, Anthoine Verard, 1510. In the colophon: “Thus ends this present book entitled The Victory of the King of France over the Venetians, and it was completed and printed on the 12th day of May in the year one thousand five hundred and ten for Anthoine Verard, bookseller… in Paris; In-8°, printed in Gothic type, 48 folios on vellum with a final blank folio, red morocco, smooth spine, title printed lengthwise on the spine, triple gilt lines on the covers, gilt edges. 17th-century binding. The wood-engraved and highlighted title page depicts the arms of France supported by two angels, with, below, the arms of Cl. De Seyssel supported by two griffins. On the verso of the title leaf, a wood engraving with highlights depicts the author seated, writing his book. A third illustration depicts the Battle of Agnadel, an illuminated woodcut. The volume is adorned with initials and, in places, with painted headbands on a gold ground. A very fine copy, rebound. Macfarlane: Anthoine Verard, 98.
