Description
FUCHS (Leonhart): *De Historia stirpium Commentarii Insignes*, compiled with great expense and vigilance by Leonhart Fuchs, the most distinguished physician… Paris, Mathurin Dupuis, 1546;
In 8°, brown calfskin, spine with five raised bands, embossed fillets on the headbands, covers with an embossed design of a double fillet framing a plate depicting the three theological virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity. The bookbinder’s monogram, I.B., is stamped in the lower left-hand corner of the plaque. A very fine example of a 16th-century binding, with a plaque and signed. This edition is uncommon, as is the Lyon edition of the same year; both were published a year after the first edition in Basel in 1642.
