Whilst acknowledging that painting cannot truly heal the
pain of war, my work seeks to express a glimmer
of hope and the resilience of human nature. The touches of silk and
gold symbolise how beauty and renewal can emerge
even from destruction. This watercolour is also a tribute to all
the women who have to cook in impossible conditions; they
are truly the queens of the home. The queen of the kitchen therefore wears a
silk crown upon her head
