Description
DESVRES – Géo Martel (Georges Martel, known as Géo Martel, 1872–1942) A set of stoneware pieces in the Art Nouveau and Japanese styles, probably prototypes of designs that were never produced. The set comprises two baluster-style vases topped with a central handle and two side handles featuring a braided relief pattern, all resting on four rectangular-section feet. A copper-coloured glaze covers the entire body of the vases, the surface of which is continuously enlivened by a dotted pattern. An applied floral decoration in a silvery-bronze glaze adorns the vases. Height 32 cm, diameter 15 cm. Numbers on the undersides of the bases. Small chips at the base of the feet. Also included are two vases in the shape of broad, flared spheres resting on a truncated conical foot. Their surfaces are continuously adorned with gently raised undulations reminiscent of Japanese garden paving patterns, alongside a design of flowers and butterflies. One of them is signed beneath the base with the monogram ‘G M’. Height: 11 cm Diameter: 16 cm.
