Description
Workshops of Guillaume WERNIERS in Lille. Important tapestry in wool and silk, border imitating a frame with cartouches, acanthus and scrolled shells. After the painter David Teniers le jeune representing a lively scene of characters and birds in the courtyard of a farm on the edge of a forest. Signed at the bottom of the composition G. W. L. F. lower right and fleur-de-lys on a red background for the Lille mark. 302 x 351 cm. Late 17th - early 18th century (Restorations of use, doubled, small wears, old folds in edges). -The workshops of Guillaume Werniers (1700-1738) specialised in the production of tapestries known as "ténières" depicting rural life, a very popular subject in the 18th century.
