Lot no. 134
RARE FOLIOSCOPE.
A collection of assembled images intended to be leafed through to give an impression of movement and create an animated sequence from a simple little book without the aid of a machine. 120 small-format black-and-white photographic plates. Leon Beaulieu, Paris, late 19th century. In perfect condition. "Leon Beaulieu is listed in the 1898 Directory of Commerce and Industry as a manufacturer of pocket cinematographs. In fact, he marketed a small toy, called the Petit Biograph Parisien, patented on 5 March of the same year, which made it possible to view folioscopes manually."
