MAUSER Model 1898 rifle (GEWEHR 98), Waffenfabrik Mauser, Oberndorf am Neckar - 1914. German regulation rifle emblematic of the First World War, with manual repetition by bolt, chambered for 7.92 x 57 mm ammunition. Breechcase marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A/N" and dated 1914, with serial number 4498. Long rifled barrel with original tangential rear sight. Barrel length 740 mm, overall length 1240 mm. Mouthpiece with bayonet lug. Internal magazine for 5 cartridges, fed by blade-loader. Straight breech characteristic of the Mauser 98 system. Period wooden frame, showing a patina of use.
