Description
Elisabeth JOULIA (1925–2003), *La Borne*, a large anthropomorphic sculpture comprising two sections of slightly pyrite-bearing Colombin sandstone. The lower section is signed and dated ‘83’ at the base. H: 110 cm. This sculpture was purchased directly from the artist in 1983. This was the period during which Elisabeth JOULIA created monumental works from the ‘Grands-pères’ series, in homage to her ancestors, which are reminiscent of the sculptures of Easter Island. Each of them bears the first name of one of her grandfathers, whom she has been able to trace back to the late 18th century. Ref. “JOULIA Faites entrer l’infinie” by Joseph Rossetto, pages 123–125. Two small chips on the upper part, not visible once the sculpture is in place.
