Description
449th Bomb Group – 15th Air Force Ashtray
Souvenir made in Italy. The Puglia region of Italy is renowned for its ceramics and, during the war, as most American bases were located in this region of southern Italy, the local industry naturally turned to producing this type of souvenir for American airmen. This ashtray is decorated with the insignia of the 718th Bomb Squadron and, on the sides, the insignia of the 449th Bomb Group to which it was attached. This unit was equipped with B-24 Liberators. The back bears the names of both units and the manufacturer.
