Pacific aeronautical chart – Solomon Islands – Bougainville Island – US Army Air Forces – 13th Air Force/US Navy/US Marine Corps – dated July 1943, revised in November 1943 This map of the large island of Bougainville in the Solomon Islands was distributed to American aircrew as part of the campaign to capture part of the island following the landing at Cape Torokina in the centre of the island, with a view to establishing an airfieldas part of the campaign against the Japanese naval air base at Rabaul. At the top, a note states that this is a second edition and orders the destruction of previous versions. This map shows damage to its border in two places (see photos). (Grégory Pons Collection)
