‘Ace’ Cards: 56th Fighter Group – 8th Air Force Dimensions: approx. 10 x 15 cm Two handcrafted cards on cardstock featuring the design of the ‘aces’ from a pack of playing cards, with a black Maltese cross in the centre and a portrait photograph of two famous aces from the 56th Fighter Group of the 8th Air Force, the renowned ‘Zemke’s Wolfpack’. The two aces in question are Robert Johnson (28 victories) and David Schilling (22.5 victories), both of whom were posted to the 61st Fighter Squadron, Johnson having been transferred to the 62nd Fighter Squadron before being removed from the squadron’s strength, thus bringing his kill tally to an end – a record that would later be equalled by Gabby Gabreski within the same unit.
