Vintage historical book ‘6th Bomb Group’ – 20th Air Force A short historical booklet devoted to the 6th Bomb Group, which was equipped with B-29 Superfortresses. This booklet, comprising around 60 pages, was printed in the Philippines in 1946 by a US Army engineering unit. The 6th Bomb Group, whose insignia features a pirate’s bust, was one of the very first units to take part in the strategic bombing campaign against Japan from the Mariana Islands. Five period photographs (including two showing B-29s with the unit’s early markings consisting of a triangle, a letter and the aircraft’s individual number – later replaced by an R in a circle), as well as another showing the famous ‘Tokyo tanks’ used to extend the range of the B-29s, accompany this book, which is a valuable source of information.
