Description
Historical book: ‘347th Fighter Squadron’ – 12th Air Force This book was written by Charles Schiffman for the members of the 347th Fighter Squadron, the famous ‘Screaming Red Ass’, who, after a brief spell in England, were based in North Africa, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and Italy. This unit was equipped with P-47 Thunderbolts. This is a copy of the original 1947 edition. Through historical accounts and numerous period photographs, this book traces the journey of the pilots and the unit during the Second World War. It covers their entire deployment from September 1942 to October 1945. In particular, the book documents a famous aerial engagement that took place on 2 April 1945. On that day, eight P-47 fighters from the 347th FS were attacked by more than 30 Italian Messerschmitt Bf-109s of the ANR. The American pilots managed to shoot down six enemy aircraft and damage three, without suffering a single loss. A rare book in its first edition. Approximately 150 pages. In English.
