Description
Contemporary History of Squadron VF-28 – US Navy – Lt(jg) Charles A. Dunn Jr.
A typewritten historical account of the history of Squadron VF-28 by Lt(jg) Charles A. Dunn Jr of the US Navy in 1944–45. Dunn was credited with three aerial victories on 15 October 1944 in the run-up to the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. A photocopy of his provisional citation awarding him the Distinguished Flying Cross is included in this lot, which comprises two portraits of Dunn, a negative (4x5in., 10x12.5cm) and a folder containing all the pages typed by Dunn. VF-28 was embarked on the light aircraft carrier USS Monterey (on board which some famous photographs were taken by Edward Steichen’s team – photocopies of some of these photographs are included).
One of the gunnery officers aboard the USS Monterey during the fighting in the Second World War was none other than Lieutenant Gerald R. Ford, who later became the 38th President of the United States.
Approximately 40 pages. Narrative in English. A unique, first-hand copy, as it comes directly from the author.
