Description
Three historical books on the ‘379th Bomb Group’ – 8th Air Force This set of three rare books traces the operational history of this B-17 Flying Fortress unit of the 8th Air Force, which was one of the very first to arrive in England as early as May 1943. The two volumes of the 379th BG anthology are particularly sought-after and difficult to obtain, notably due to their weight (each volume comprising over 200 pages) and the substantial postage costs (which can be prohibitive on top of import duties). The 379th BG managed to rank first in all operational categories used to measure the effectiveness of a bomber group. These two volumes form part of a limited edition published by the renowned American publishing house Turner, which specialises in historical works. During its deployment in Europe, the 379th flew more sorties and dropped a greater tonnage of bombs than any other heavy bomber group in the 8th Air Force, earning it two Distinguished Unit Citations. Remarkable illustrations accompany the combat mission reports, making this a particularly valuable source of information for anyone interested in the operations of the 8th Air Force. Also included is a book by the same publisher entitled ‘Screwball Express’, devoted to one of the unit’s B-17s which had a remarkable operational career. Over 450 pages. Books in English.
