Description
Books: ‘Silver Wings, Pinks & Greens’ + ‘More Silver Wings, Pinks & Greens’ Two essential reference works written by Jon A. Maguire and published by Schiffer in 1993 and 1997. The titles of these two volumes refer directly to the iconic elements of the USAAF (U.S. Army Air Forces) officers’ uniform: • Silver Wings: The famous pilot and crew qualification insignia made of solid silver, worn on the chest; • Pinks & Greens: The nickname for the US Army’s most elegant winter officer’s uniform, consisting of a dark olive-green jacket (‘Greens’) and trousers in a light taupe-brown shade with a slight pink or pink-beige tinge (‘Pinks’). The first volume focuses on the years 1941 to 1945 and includes: • A comprehensive visual study: Nearly 600 colour illustrations showing authentic items (collar insignia, rank insignia, squadron patches, jackets and caps) • Archival material from the period: The book includes historical photographs of airmen in action, as well as the official uniform regulations taken from the 1943 and 1944 Officers’ Guides. Following the success of the first volume and the influx of new items offered by major collectors, Jon Maguire has published a second, expanded volume featuring over 1,000 colour photographs. This second volume broadens the historical period from 1913 to 1945 and includes more specific organisations such as the Civil Air Patrol and the W.A.S.P.s (Women Airforce Service Pilots), the Air Transport Command (ATC) and American pilots serving with the British RAF or the Canadian RCAF. 192 pages and 392 pages. Books in English. (Grégory Pons Collection)
