Description
The Purple Heart This is one of the most respected honours in the United States. Awarded in the name of the President, it holds a unique status: it is the oldest American military decoration still awarded and is specifically dedicated to soldiers wounded or killed in the line of duty as a result of enemy action. Unlike most other medals, the Purple Heart does not recognise an act of bravery or exceptional merit, but rather the physical sacrifice made in the face of the enemy. A World War II-era example in its original box, accompanied by a commemorative ribbon and an enamelled pin for wearing in the lapel . (Grégory Pons Collection)
