Description
Panoramic photograph: 384th Bomb Group – 547th Bomb Squadron – 8th Air Force (B-17) This spectacular photograph (modern frame) shows the men of the 547th Bomb Squadron posing in front of and on one of their B-17s, in this case a B-17G with its nose turret. In the top left-hand corner is the identification ‘547 Bomb Sq. 384 Bomb Gp.’. This type of photograph is particularly sought after by collectors. A slight crease in the middle is visible depending on the angle of the light, but is in fact barely noticeable. The 384th Bomb Group was based at Grafton Underwood in England and was particularly hard-hit during the bombing campaign over Germany from June 1943 to April 1945, with nearly 159 bombers lost on missions, representing nearly 1,580 aircrew killed, captured or missing. Mounted under glass. 16 x 42 cm (Grégory Pons Collection)
