Estimate €300 - €400
Description
Bancroft ‘50 Missions’ cap in beige canvas (size 7) A ‘Flighter’ style cap from Bancroft with a crown made of fine beige (khaki) wool gabardine for summer wear, produced between May 1943 and February 1945. This is a ‘50 Missions’ or ‘Crusher’ cap, very popular amongst airmen, featuring a soft leather peak and a soft crown specifically designed for aviation to allow the use of head-band headphones. The Bancroft model was one of the most sought-after styles amongst pilots of the 8th Air Force. The example on offer is in excellent condition (as shown on page 6 of the book *American Airmen in Europe 1942–1945*). (Mathieu Bianchi Collection)
