Watch, Navigation (Ground Speed), Type A-8 A Type A-8 chronometer manufactured in 1944 by Waltham, featuring a 9-jewel movement housed in a size 16 (43.18 mm) pocket watch case. It is used by navigators to accurately determine ground speed in dead reckoning calculations. The example on offer is in good condition: the case shows no defects and has fine markings on the back; the plastic crystal is intact and has yellowed slightly. The dial is in very good condition and only the hands show signs of oxidation. The chronometer requires servicing by a watchmaker as it cannot be wound (broken mainspring).
