Personal photo album of Lt(jg) Earl Richison, VB-153 Squadron, 1945 A rare photo album belonging to Lt(jg) Earl Richison, an SB2C Helldiver dive-bomber pilot in May 1945. This officer’s name appears in the caption of the group photograph on the album’s front page and then twice on the fuselage of his aircraft next to the squadron insignia. Approximately 90 photographs documenting this squadron’s formation just before the end of the war. Squadron VB-153 was formed in March 1945 before being redesignated VA-15A in November 1946, then VA-154 in July 1948. The album contains several high-quality photographs taken in flight and on the deck of an aircraft carrier, where VB-153 carried out its final manoeuvres in preparation for deployment to a combat zone, just before the end of the war in August 1945. Due to their very small numbers compared to the USAF, memoirs by US Navy pilots are relatively rare. A fine, cohesive album centred on an aircraft that is rarely documented.
