THE QUR’AN. Translated from the Arabic text by Mr Kasimirski. Presented by Ali Merad, professor at the University of Lyon-III. Paris, Éditions Lidis, 1978 – Edited by Noël Schumann – Printed at Grafiche Gutenberg in Bergamo, Italy – Bound by La Reliure du Centre in Limoges.
Large quarto, luxurious publisher’s binding in full olive-green leather with flaps, adorned with rich embossed and gilt decoration featuring Oriental motifs, titled and decorated spine, red silk bookmark, matching slipcase - Text printed on handmade laid paper from the historic Magnani paper mill in Pescia, Tuscany. First edition no. 1449/6500.
The illustrations comprise seventeen plates taken from Oriental manuscripts dating from the 14th to the 18th century. The Arabic text reproduces a 19th-century manuscript from the Oriental school; the binding was modelled on a 17th-century Arabic original held at the National Library of Paris.
