Stanley recounts his journey in search of the explorer David Livingstone, who had disappeared into the African interior. He was ordered to travel to the Lake Tanganyika region to find Livingstone, who had not been heard from for several years. The aim is to find Livingstone, dead or alive, and to bring back information about his discoveries. After months of searching, Stanley finally meets Livingstone in 1871 at Ujiji, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, uttering the famous phrase: “Dr Livingstone, I presume?”.
The book is illustrated with 60 engravings and 6 maps.
A fine copy in its original binding, a great classic of 19th-century exploratory travel.
