In-12 (19 x 11.5 cm), ebony half-maroquin, ribbed spine, title and author’s name in small gilt lettering. Front and back covers preserved. Binding signed ‘Pagnant’ on the upper endpaper. 35 pp.; black line drawings in the text. First edition of Maurice Barrès’s first book devoted to the Latin Quarter, illustrated with 32 black line drawings in the text. In it, Barrès describes, with a blend of irony, nostalgia and sociological analysis, the life, the characters, the customs and the atmosphere of the Left Bank and the student milieu of the Latin Quarter at the end of the 19th century. A very fine copy in a beautifully executed Pagnant binding.
