(c. 1800) In-12 (16.5 x 10 cm), half-basane with corner pieces, smooth spine with panels decorated with gilt motifs, title and volume number in gilt letters, gilt fillet on the edges, red edges. Contemporary binding. - Romantic half-calf binding for the atlas, in oblong format (25 x 35 cm). 9 volumes of text, uncollated, atlas comprising 37 plates. Scuffing to the bindings. Some pages sun-faded, a few foxing spots. A rare, undated edition from the late 18th century, in 9 volumes, to which is attached the atlas from an 1830 edition (37 plates). A fundamental work for the study and appreciation of the life and customs of classical Greece. “The Voyage of Anacharsis [first published in 1788] provides us with a thorough understanding of the religious, civil, literary and philosophical history of the most enlightened nation of Antiquity.
