Description
BORDAS, Franck and AILLAUD, Gilles. Cargo No. 2 – Gilles Aillaud. Paris, Franck Bordas, 1983. In-4 (32.5 x 25 cm), loose-leaf. Unpaginated [8 leaves]. First edition of issue no. 2 of the art journal *Cargo*, printed entirely by lithography in a limited run of just 175 copies; this copy bears the number 149. This issue is dedicated to the figurative artist Gilles Aillaud (1928–2005). It contains four full-page lithographs, three of which are in black (one spanning a double page) and one in colour (crocodile). These publications by the publisher Pierre Bordas were presented as a ‘luxury fanzine’ in a limited edition, with each issue showcasing a contemporary artist (Jean-Claude Silbermann, Gilles Aillaud, Jean Messagier, Roberto Matta, Pierre Buraglio, etc.) The partnership between Gilles Aillaud and Franck Bordas continued in 1988 with the lithographic printing of a four-volume encyclopaedia of all animals. A very fine copy.
