A pirated edition of the famous oriental tale.
Gaznah, Printed by the Most Pious, Most Merciful & Most August Sultan of the Indies, 1120 (1742).
2 volumes in 1 in-12 volume, mottled havana sheepskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilded panels and fleurons, covers with gilded border fillets and fleurons at the corners, red edges (pastiche binding).
XII, 136 pp., (4) ff., 128 pp.
Some foxing and discolouration. Pagination errors.
A pirated edition based on the ‘second’ edition of the famous tale; the first edition is cited by Tchémerzine, though he had not seen it (IV 192–193). A counterfeit copy, as evidenced by the title vignettes, the quality of the printing and the numerous pagination errors.
Stamp of the library at Eferding Castle belonging to the princely family of Starhemberg. Modern bookplate ‘O.B.’ on the endpaper.
