[CURIOSA]. [LÉTORIÈRE, Marquis de]. *L'Année galante*; or the secret intrigues of the Marquis de L***. London and Paris, Rue and Hôtel Serpente, 1786. In-16 (13 x 8 cm), half-glazed calfskin, ribbed spine decorated with grotesque motifs. 19th-century binding. Paper slightly yellowed. A rare first edition. An anonymous text portraying a man living off women, recounting his various fortunes month by month. The author, Louis-Armand Prévost Létorière, an officer in the Guards at Versailles, ‘was regarded, in certain circles, as the most capable man of his time’ (Gay), no doubt in reference to his ‘exploits’. A fine copy preserved in a delicate 19th-century binding.
