Paris, At the offices of *Le Réveil*, 1859. Folio, full unbleached cloth, smooth spine decorated with the title and year of publication gilded on peacock-blue leather patches, peacock-blue title label pasted onto the front cover. Contemporary binding. 192 pages printed in two columns, with an engraved vignette by Trichon after Gustave Doré at the head of each issue. Binding rubbed, slight water stains on the back cover, corners folded, a few scattered foxing spots. A collection of the 16 issues published between 1 January and 16 April 1859, the second year of publication of this polemical and Bonapartist journal founded by Granier de Cassagnac and the Escudier brothers, which set out to ‘purify literature’. It includes, amongst others, texts by the Marquis A. de Lauzière, Léon Escudier, Granier de Cassagnac, Théophile Silvestre, A. de Caumont and Émile Béguin. A sturdy copy from the period, with the pages still in good condition.
