In-12 (14.5 x 8 cm), Jansenist binding in green morocco, with lace lining, gilt edges on marbled paper. 19th-century binding. VIII-279 pp. Spine slightly faded. Provenance: Ex-libris of Amédée Rigaud and Bertheau. An anonymous collection attributed to Anne-Gabriel Meusnier de Querlon (1702–1780), bringing together three previously published short stories: ‘Le Point de vue de l’Opéra’ (1743); ‘Psaphion’ (1747); ‘Les Hommes de Prométhée’ (1748). The following have been added: ‘Serpille et Lilla ou le roman d’un jour’, translated from the Italian; followed by “Cinname, histoire grecque” (the first French editions of these last two plays). A fine copy, beautifully bound in a 19th-century Jansenist full morocco binding.
