Description
[MUSIC]. CHAUSSON, Ernest. Handwritten collection of musical scores from the late 19th century.
A handwritten collection comprising 120 pages of musical scores by Ernest Chausson (1855–1899), written by an anonymous hand towards the end of the 19th century. It contains, amongst other pieces set to music: ‘Nocturne’ (poem by Maurice Bouchor); ‘Trois jours de Vendange’ (poem by Alphonse Daudet); ‘Ballade’ (three lieder by Camille Mauclair); ‘Amour d’Antan’ (poem by Maurice Bouchor); ‘Printemps triste’ (poem by Maurice Bouchor), etc.
Ernest Chausson was appointed secretary of the Société nationale de musique in 1886. Some of his works are among the most representative of late 19th-century French music, such as the lyric drama “Le Roi Arthus”, the “Symphony in B flat”, the symphonic poem “Viviane”, the “Poème for violin and orchestra”, and his numerous vocal works (including the “Chanson perpétuelle”) and chamber music pieces.
