“Black-and-white photographs of female nudes evoking statuary through the play of light and the purity of form, which lend the smooth, perfect bodies the lustre of marble. By a jack-of-all-trades (1869–1942) in the decorative arts, who had been based on the Swiss shores of Lake Geneva since the post-war period, and for whom this is his sole photographic work. A return, of a manner, to the academic nude, characterised by the athletic and icy aesthetic of the 1930s” (Pierre Boudrot, Bibliographie des éditions Denoël et Steele).
Limited edition of 1,100 numbered copies; this one is no. 889.
Foreword by Jules Romains.
