Description
[SARASIN, Jean-François]. *La Pompe funèbre de Voiture*. Paris, Toussainct Quinet, 1650. In-8 (21.5 x 15 cm), Bradel binding, red half-cloth with corner pieces, label on the spine. Modern binding. 38 pp. 1f. unnumbered (privilegium). Yellowed paper, a few fox’s spots. Provenance: ex-libris of Jules Couët, librarian of the Comédie-Française. Second edition published one year after the original. A key work, in the form of prosimetre (a mixture of prose and verse), by the poet Jean-François Sarrasin (1614–1654), composed in homage to his counterpart and rival Vincent Voiture, shortly after the latter’s death in 1648. A hybrid work which, whilst not a true eulogy or pamphlet, pays tribute to Voiture’s memory in a unique way.
