Large in-4, XX-335 pp, blue morocco, spine ribbed, decorated, titled and dated, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, double fillet on the edges, gilt inner lace, gilt head (late 19th century binding signed Vincent-Lebel).
Beautiful edition on vellum, decorated with 5 engravings before the letter after François Gérard and enriched with a portrait of La Fontaine a little later.
This is the first book printed by Firmin Didot at the Louvre and the first illustrated by Gérard for the Didot family.
Small retouch to the second plate, scattered foxing, otherwise a fine copy. Leather bookplate KF.
