8 volumes in-8, glazed brown calf, richly decorated ribbed spines, wide gilt border framing the covers, gilt roulette on the edges and inside (period binding).
First edition published in conjunction with the Paris edition, but much rarer and more sought-after than the latter. "Very rare, at the same date, in French, by Colburn and Bossange", Clouzot himself states. It is illustrated with a frontispiece and 2 fold-out maps.
An attractive copy in full contemporary binding, in very rare condition. Some minor wear or old restorations, some minor interior defects including a few scattered freckles.
