"These commentaries are the result of a close collaboration with Nicolas Des Gallars. Calvin summed up the situation in a letter to Francisco Enzinas dated 7 March 1550: 'My Meditations on Isaiah that you are waiting for, you tell me, will soon come out, but written by Des Gallars. Because I don't have enough time to write. But he takes note of them while I'm teaching, then writes them up at home. I read it again and where he has not followed my thought correctly, I reproduce it better' (O.C., t.13, col.536)", R. Peter & J.F. Gilmont, Bibliotheca Calviniana, 51/6.
Handwritten ex-libris, Guildford Theological Library label to upper flyleaf.
Binding worn (leather missing from spine and corners), wormholes in lower margin, old angular wetness else a good copy of this first edition of John Calvin's (1509-1564) commentaries on the Book of Isaiah, his first interpretation of an Old Testament book. Rare.
