2 large vol. in-folio, granite calf, richly decorated ribbed spines, rich gilt decoration framing the covers with gilt motifs in the spandrels and a large central iron, also gilt (Dutch binding of the period).
First edition illustrated with 2 frontispieces, 2 title vignettes, 3 header vignettes, 2 lettrines, 27 culs-de-lampe and 5 double maps, as well as 214 hors-texte plates, here in an excellent edition although it is a copy "with the nails". A fine work, sought after for its magnificent etching engraved under the direction of David van der Plaes. (Brunet III, 200.)
Presented here in a sumptuous period Dutch binding decorated with a large central medallion depicting the Ark of the Covenant guarded by an angel. Some minor old wear or restorations, some minor interior defects including a few tears without missing pages.
