Fourth edition of this famous work on Rome. It is illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author, 14 plans and folding plates, 30 plates out of the text, as well as a few figures in the text.
Antonio Nibby (1792-1839) was an Italian archaeologist specialising in the history of ancient art. He worked on the excavation of monuments in Rome and was professor of archaeology at the University of Rome and the French Academy in Rome.
A very fine copy in contemporary gilt vellum.
