ONE RUPEE of SHAH ALAM II, 19th year of his reign ( * ) – 955 parts per thousand silver.
26 mm – 11.60 grams – inscriptions on obverse and reverse in Persian. Blanks decorated with stars, crosses and clusters of dots; mint: Murshidabad – SUP
( * ) SHAH ALIM II (1728–1806). Mughal Emperor who reigned from 1759 to 1806; died in DELHI. His reign ended with the loss of Mughal influence over Bengal following the battles of Buxar (1764) and Delhi in 1803, when the British took possession of the city. Shah Alam II then placed himself under the protection of the British East India Company.
