( * ) – From 1940 to 1949, the French people in both the occupied and free zones endured a very difficult period in their daily lives. Everything was complicated and everything was rationed. The primary concern for everyone was simply to feed themselves. (100 grams of bread per day, for example).
( ** ) Name misspelt – a common error (no doubt due to the regional accent) – actually referring to BOCHIROL DISTILLERIE, the manufacturer of the digestive liqueur ‘Castro Sthénique’, which was very famous from 1900 to 1930. Today, in SARRAS, Place Bochirol pays tribute to the family and the distillery – founded around 1880 and closed around 1950 – which was the lifeblood of the village.
