AVIATION 1911 – RARE COLLECTION of 24 postcards entitled “EUROPEAN AIR CIRCUIT JUNE–JULY 1915” (*) - 24 postcards from the PAUTAUBERGE collection, printed by Chaput. Each postcard features a central scene of an air show or an aeroplane, with a portrait of the pilot in a speech bubble at the top and a national emblem at the bottom – all postcards are captioned; 24 fine historical documents. (*) 18 June 1911, no fewer than 40 aviators took part in the “European Air Circuit”, a race totalling some 1,600 kilometres, which started at the Vincennes manoeuvres ground and was organised by the daily newspaper *Le Journal*. Paris–Liège / Liège–Utrecht / Utrecht–Brussels / Brussels–Roubaix / Roubaix–Calais / Calais–London–Calais–Paris. - The first stage alone, with appalling weather, proved fatal: three deaths in accidents (Lemartin / Landron / Rinceteau) - Only nine competitors completed the circuit, which was won by BEAUMONT.
