FREEDOM, UNITY, EQUALITY - IN THE NAME OF THE REPUBLIC, one and indivisible,
Appeal against desertion,
FOURTH BATTALION OF PUI-DE-DOME, 10 July 1793.
“The proud head of the Hydra is about to fall; already thousands of Republicans have raised the sword of Liberty above its head; they wish to share this great victory with you; they urge you, they invite you—or rather, whilst reproaching you for having abandoned them at the end of their labours, they summon you to rejoin them within three days... etc.
to search for and arrest...all volunteers from the Fourth Battalion who may have cowardly deserted their unit… and have them taken to Brioude… a military court will be convened on the third day to punish them as deserters in time of war, without any possibility… of mitigating their punishment. Commissioner of War, HENRY”.
At Clermont-Ferrand, from the Denis Limet printing works in the department of Puy-de-Dôme, 1793.
