Description
France EDUCATIONAL BANKNOTE, olive-coloured print by the SCHOOL PUBLISHER SCOLAVOX. In the same format as the 500 NEW FRANCS MOLIERE note, it bears the words ‘SCHOOL BANKNOTE’ printed in red on both sides in place of the watermarks. Note: given that basic financial education is deemed necessary and would be all the more useful if started at school, in 1923, the Ministry of National Education instructed primary school teachers to teach the basics of financial literacy to primary school pupils and to incorporate these concepts into arithmetic lessons. To support this education, various educational publishers provided teachers with mock banknotes designed for teaching purposes. These were in common use until the mid-20th century.
