Description
COMMEMORATIVE SOUVENIR BOX SET marking the 50th ANNIVERSARY of the ÉLYSÉE TREATY.
FRENCH-GERMAN FRIENDSHIP – DEUTSCH-FRANZOSISCHE FREUNDSCHAFT.
Transparent plastic box containing, in the centre, a fine gold-plated medallion of high quality, featuring portraits of Presidents De Gaulle and Adenauer – on the right, a 1 Deutsche Mark coin plated in fine gold; on the left, a ‘Semeuse’ franc coin plated in fine gold.
“On 8 July 1962, the day began with a Mass for Peace in Reims Cathedral: the former French President Charles de Gaulle and the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer stood side by side to declare their commitment to reconciling France and Germany after a long period of enmity and two world wars. This pledge was officially ratified on 22 January 1963 with the signing of the Élysée Treaty on Franco-German cooperation.”
