Description
FRANCE – UNISSUED COIN TEN FRANCS ROBERT SCHUMANN (G 825).
Portrait of the ‘Father of Europe’, half in right-facing profile, the other half featuring an ‘E’ formed by 12 stars – Reverse: Stylised Gallic rooster by John Lobban.
Uncirculated. – 1986.
* This coin was part of a pair with the ten-franc Jimenez (G 824); they were too small and were easily confused in the cash registers with the 50-centime ‘sower’ coin - The ten-franc Jimenez coin was overwhelmingly rejected by the public, to such an extent that it was demonetised less than six months after it was put into circulation - In light of this, the TEN-FRANC SCHUMANN coin was not issued at all and was almost entirely remelted.
