Description
The upper section of a large monstrance or reliquary made of cast silver (unmarked), chiselled and gilded, with translucent blue enamel. Shaped like an architecturally designed hexagonal aedicule, it features, on the lower section, a series of six arcades with pinnacles housing holy figures against an enamelled background, separated by flying buttresses adorned with gargoyles; and, on the upper section, an openwork bell-tower with a conical roof topped by a finial, pierced with twin ogival windows, flanked by flying buttresses with pinnacles and gargoyles. Berry or Burgundy?, second half of the 15th century. Height: 32.5 cm – Weight: 925 g. Label: Dr E.F. Provenance: Former collection of Dr E.F. Georges Pelletier Collection in Marseille (some wear, slight damage and a missing figure of a saint with its enamel background). Expert: Laurence FLIGNY.
