Description
Horse trotting in bronze with translucent brown patina. He is depicted with his left foreleg raised and his hind leg stretched out on the same side, showing a trotting gait marked by dynamism; open mouth and mane with long, wavy locks falling abundantly over the right side of the neck with a downward sweep over the forehead. Base in blackened wood. Italy, Florence, attributed to Pietro Tacca (1577-1640), circa 1620/1640. Height: 19 cm - Total height: 32 cm. Provenance: former collection of Gustave Fayet (1865-1925), painter, ceramist and curator of the Musée de Béziers. He also owned the abbeys of Fontfroide and Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, as well as the château d'Igny in Essonne. A photo taken in the library of this château shows this bronze horse sitting on the artist's cylinder desk, reading in the company of his daughter, surrounded by the many paintings and objects in his collection. Comparison: The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has in its collections a copy of the same model of Horse Trotting in gilded bronze and of the same dimensions (H.19.2 cm). It is given as being by Pietro Tacca, circa 1620-1640 (inv. BK-16507). Expert: Cabinet FLIGNY
