Interesting manuscript on the construction of the Barre and the dykes on the Adour, illustrated with a watercolour plate.
Bayonne, 1777.
In-4, half cream vellum with corners, handwritten title label on front cover.
99 handwritten pages on 58 leaves including 30 bluish leaves. One folding watercolour plate mounted on tab.
Yellowed vellum, boards rubbed. Some foxing and discharges. One plate missing.
Manuscript signed Lavinet dealing with the construction of dykes on the Adour at Bayonne containing a "Mémoire sur les ouvrages de la Barre de Bayonne" by Pinsun followed by "Observations sur le mémoire de M. de Pinsun" by D'Auvard concerning the same undertaking. This is followed by various specifications and conditions governing the construction of the bar in 1728, those for the continuation of the work in 1741 and those for the construction of the Blancpignon spur in 1745. A fold-out plate in fine, signed by the author, shows two sections of the constructions drawn in pen and watercolour.
An interesting work describing the management and stages of town planning projects in the 18th century.
