[GRANDVILLE, Jean-Jacques]. Collection of prints: Fables de La Fontaine, Métamorphoses du Jour...containing a beautiful ink drawing by Grandville. Vast collection of illustrations by Grandville for the press or publishing. In-folio, black half-chagrin, spine with faux-nerves decorated with gilt fillets. 235 plates mounted on leaves, about 40 plates and press clippings. Binding rubbed, corners dulled, restoration to first board. Beautiful collection of numerous prints of illustrations by Jean-Jacques Grandville (1803-1847) for the press or publishing. Most of the plates are taken from the Fables de La Fontaine (Paris, Furne, 1839) and mounted on the leaves. There are also colour plates from Métamorphoses du Jour, Grandville's satire on the society of his time, combining the human and the animal in the same way as La Fontaine. The set also includes illustrations for the newspapers Le Charivari and La Caricature, as well as various amusing productions by the artist. 235 plates from the Fables de La Fontaine illustrées par Grandville (Paris, Furne, 1839) mounted on the album leaves.
