Description
Madonna and Child carved in the round from oak. Its proportions and the polychromy of the face are reminiscent of the Mechelen dolls, but the style of the work points to northern France, and more specifically Picardy. The straight lines of the drapery and the treatment of the eyes (heavy, almond-shaped eyelids) are reminiscent of works from Abbeville or Amiens. Picardy, c. 1500. Damage and losses; traces of the original polychromy. H. 32 cm Expert: Thorvald DUBOC
